The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has inspected the ongoing construction of Ohonre, Benin Technical College, 19th Street Roads, among other inner circular and connecting roads within the Ugbowo axis of Benin City.

The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the construction works, said the projects are part of sustained efforts by his administration to ease traffic flow in the Ugbowo axis of Benin metropolis.

Obaseki was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Engr. Osikhena Omo Ojior among other top government officials.

The governor noted that the project has progressed significantly since the last inspection, expressing optimism that before the rains begin asphalting would have commenced on the roads.

He said, “I am quite pleased with the work done so far on the roads inspected today. I am pleased and surprised as I never knew the work was this extensive. Our plan is to ease traffic flow in Edo State, particularly in metropolitan Benin City.

“There is a lot of traffic that comes from the Ugbowo axis. We have a lot of settlements around the Ugbowo axis and because we don’t have circular and inner connecting roads, the by-pass is not complete, and as such, we need to begin to create inner circular roads. The 19th Street is one of those roads that will take traffic from Ugbowo to Siluko and down to Ekenwan. We are constructing 19th Street and two others that are currently being designed.”

Obaseki added, “Work has progressed significantly since we inspected these projects about five weeks ago and I am sure that before the rain comes, they would have finished the stone base and begin asphalting.”
